Art and Photos by Randy L. James

Focusing in on my creative passions.

I took these shots of a ship yard crane and the tram station at Oregon Health and Science University.  Here is more information on the  aerial tram.

I reworked the sky in the crane picture to follow the cables.

Taken July, 2nd 2009 near Astoria, OR at the mouth of the Columbia river.. It was getting close to sunset and these birds were really putting on a fun show. The light was just right for these photos. See more in the nature pic gallery.

The second shot was taken a little earlier looking inland as the sun lit up the undersides of the same birds.

Taken Dec, 12th 2008 someplace along the coast of northern Oregon from last December. I was driving along and noticed this flooded creek running into the muddy surf and really liked the way the two waters fought with each other. The surf would push the creek backwards, and then let it go, flooding mud into the nearby ocean.

I took these shots down in Arcata, CA, a small town on the coast of northern California.  They have some sand dunes much like the dunes parks just north in Oregon.  I pushed this angles, curves and contrast on these shots in an attempt to create a slightly mysterious mood.  BTW there is an awesome little coffee shop that is also has private saunas in Arcata called Finnish Country Sauna, check it out if you are in town.

This show represented the culmination of over 5 years (2001 to 2006) of exploring the intersection between traditional sensual nude images and then emerging world of digital photography. Only photos from late 2004 to 2006 made the cut for the show.

The opening took place on 8/23/2006. The show ran until early October. Marita Holdaway was very kind to host the show at the Benham Gallery, also known as Gallery 1216 in Seattle, Washington. Roy Flukinger from the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas presented the works in the show.  I shared the gallery space with two amazing photographers including my friend Paul Dahlquist and his contemporary Denis Kempe.

Friends and associates from my social and professional worlds (, CompuCom, Microsoft, and the University of Washington) all attended, creating a wonderfully positive and memorable evening.
